More than books

We're down to the last 21 days before the board exam and I'm pretty sure that most of your brain cells are tired of just reading reading reading... Drafting drafting drafting.

Read draft draw colour read draft draw draw colour colour read some more color and lalalalalala.
This picture is here just because cookies + cold milk = SARAP PANG-BREAK TIME

Well, here's a list of alternatives you can do to avoid those headaches from too much reading.

1. Have a schedule

Mikki actually explained this in her other post about her daily routine, and I also must say that having a strict schedule of when to study helped me a lot to focus on what I'm studying. Having a routine also mentally prepares your body for the actual exam, so it would be better if you start the day early and start reading.

It actually all depends with you. You know yourself better than anyone else, so find a routine that will not make you lazy to get up and study or not give you a headache at least.

2. Look for other materials or mediums

You do know that it's not enough to just have hand outs, right? Yes! It's actually not enough to just browse though books either. Go and explore the hundreds of other materials and mediums for you to study! This may seem so weird but here's another list of some materials we found useful.

A. YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON HISTORY, ETC.

Running time: 5-8 minutes
Recommendation: MUST WATCH!!!!

Mikki found super interesting videos of Art History Timeline by Otis College. It only takes you less than 10 minutes to watch videos about... Duh. Art History Timeline!!! That's how short it is!!!! And helpful in a way because you get to see some of the information you've been reading thus... An imprint on your brain so you won't forget! Hah! Seriously, take it from me... WATCH IT!!!!

Running time: 15-50 minutes
Recommendation: MUST WATCH, make time for it.

Another one from Otis College is Modern Art History

Running time: 44-60+ minutes
Recommendation: Watch if you still have time to spare.

History of... is more of the details of each historic period. Meaning more of wars, people, significant things during that particular period.

Running time: 3 minutes and 5 seconds
Recommendation: Of course you should watch it!!

Running time: Less than 10 minutes
Recommendation: Go go go go

Mikki has a gift for searching for other sources of information and she passed by this super cute clip, Four sisters in Ancient Rome (by Ray Laurence). The clip is part of a TEDEd series called The World's People and Places. All their videos are super informative (duh) and artsy! Just don't get carried away once you see the site! Heehee.

B. BOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY

I don't have enough references for this since I practically lent all my books to my friend who are currently reviewing. But I still have some useful books you can check out:

  • The Abrams Guide to Period Styles for Interiors by Judith Gura, 2005
  • Time Saver Details for Store Planning and Design by Charles E. Broudy, FAIA & Vilma Barr, 1995
  • History of Interior Design and Furniture by Robbie G. Blakemore, 1997
  • Interior Design Color by Design by Jonathan Poore, 2005
  • Space Planning for Commercial and Residential Interiors by Sam Kubba, PhD., 2003
  • Elements of Interior Design and Decoration by Sherrill Whiton,
  • A Visual Dictionary of Architecture by Francis D.K. Ching, 2011
  • Time Savers Standards for Interior Design and Space Planning, Second Edition, Dechiara, Panero, Zelnik,
  • Human Dimensions & Interior Space, Julius Panero & Martin Zelnik, 1979

We'll just add on more references as the weeks go. Just remember to check out the library for other references that you may think would be useful!

C. MOVIES

HEHE yes, it's a cheat night for those who have historical-ish videos! I mean, if you're really praning to the point that you don't want to take a walk or reward yourself with a movie. COMPROMISE, watch a movie that would be related (or not hehe) to review. Some movies we watched were, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Prince of Egypt and... Other series that would be about the history of Europe. Hahaha.

Again, just don't get carried away with watching everything.

D. WEBSITES

We've had a number of posts in our Web Review category with helpful information you can read. Of course, there's more out there!!!! Heehee.

Have some fuuuuuun.

3. Don't forget to rest your brain!

Your brain wasn't meant to run for a straight 24hours so maybe after 8-10 hours HAHA or maybe 6-8 hours of studying (with breaks!) never ever forget to rest. Do something to release your stress you or go out and eat dirty ice cream. Take a walk. Go out for a run. Go out for a date. Watch your favourite show. Just don't forget, REST.

4. Oh, and don't forget to draw!!!!!!!

It may seem overwhelming that there's so much material to read and study that you might forget that 1/3 days in the exam will be drafting and drawing. So exercise those drawing muscles everyday!!! Do it in between breaks or even include a 30-min drawing/drafting in your schedule. :)

*I do not own this photo. :)

I hope this post helps despite the 28-day countdown! Heehee.
